Advancing Regenerative Medicine: Experts Highlight New Hope for Healthy Aging and Wellness

Biolive (M) Sdn. Bhd. hosted a scientific seminar on regenerative medicine at the Pullman Miri Waterfront, bringing together renowned medical experts, clinicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals to explore the latest developments in regenerative medicine and its growing relevance in healthcare.

The seminar was officiated by YB Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Minister of Transport, Sarawak and was attended by distinguished guests of honour, including YB Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Miri Hospital directors, representatives from the Ministry of Health, medical practitioners, and industry stakeholders from across the region, as well as more than 700 guests from diverse backgrounds.

The event featured an esteemed panel of speakers, including Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, former Director-General of Health Malaysia; Dato’ Dr. Jaswant Singh, clinical consultant oncologist; Assoc. Prof Dr. Angela Ng Min Hwei, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre; Prof. Dr. Su Yung Tsun, Director of the Taiwan Anti-aging Medical Association; and Dr. Uttam Patil, CEO of ABVC Biopharma inc.

In his keynote address, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Noor Hisham highlighted the growing importance of regenerative medicine as an emerging field focused on restoring damaged tissues and organs by harnessing the body’s natural healing and repair mechanisms. He emphasized that advances in stem cell science and regenerative technologies have the potential to reshape the future of healthcare by addressing diseases at their source rather than simply managing symptoms.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Angela Ng shared insights into stem cell biology and the science of healthy aging, explaining that slowing telomere shortening through evidence-based longevity interventions may contribute to improved healthspan. She also presented findings from her research on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), which have demonstrated promising safety profiles in regenerative applications. Her work reflects the continued progress of regenerative medicine research and innovation at UKMMC.

Dato' Dr. Jaswant Singh delivered a presentation from an oncologist’s perspective, discussing the future role of regenerative medicine in cancer care and its potential to complement conventional treatment approaches through advances in tissue repair, precision medicine, and supportive care therapies.

The seminar featured discussions on innovative wellness approaches and the role of nutrition in supporting healthy aging. Prof. Su Yung Tsun shared perspectives on senolytic concepts and cellular wellness, highlighting ongoing scientific interest in bioactive compounds that may support the body’s natural regenerative and maintenance processes.

The session also included a presentation on RiboN, introduced within the context of cellular health and aging research. The discussion focused on its positioning in relation to oxidative stress management and overall cellular support as part of broader nutritional and wellness strategies.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Uttam Patil highlighted ongoing research involving Maitake mushroom in IMIO and shared that current clinical studies are being explored for its potential role in supportive care settings, including as an adjunct within broader oncology and wellness research. He noted that findings so far are preliminary and continue to be evaluated, particularly in relation to immune support and overall patient well-being within integrative health approaches.

The seminar concluded with a shared commitment to advancing scientific collaboration and public awareness of regenerative medicine. As research continues to evolve, initiatives such as this provide an important platform for knowledge exchange and may contribute to the development of innovative therapies and health technologies that improve quality of life and promote healthier aging.
